Lewis and Clark were two early explorers of the Western United States. They were the first Euro-Americans to see much of the west and they sent plant specimens, map, and information back to the eastern united states. They spent a cold, wet winter on the Oregon coast and then returned. Today there is a college in Portland named for them.
